This policy explains what personal information the Valemount Hotel ("we", "us", "our") collects through this website, why we collect it, and your choices. It is written to align with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). If you contact us from the European Union or United Kingdom, the section on international visitors also applies to you.

2. What we collect

We only collect what we need to respond to you and manage your stay:

Booking requests: your name, phone number, email, requested dates, room and rate preference, number of guests, and any notes you add.
Contact messages: your name, phone number, email and message.
Consent choices: whether you agreed to our booking terms and whether you opted in to marketing emails.
Basic technical data: our web server keeps standard logs (such as your IP address and the time of a request) to keep the site secure and working. We store your IP address with a booking request only to help prevent abuse.

We do not store or process your payment card number on our own servers. When you pay online, your card details are entered directly on the secure checkout page of our payment processor, Stripe, which handles the payment on our behalf under its own privacy and security terms. We receive only a confirmation and basic booking details. You can also pay in person or by phone.

3. Why we use it

To respond to your booking request or question and confirm a reservation.
To provide the services and hospitality you request.
To keep records required for legitimate business and legal reasons.
To send you marketing messages only if you asked us to (see section 7).
To protect the security and integrity of our website.

We rely on your consent and on our legitimate business interests to provide the services you ask for. We will not use your information for a new purpose without telling you.

4. When we share it

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

With trusted service providers who help us operate (for example, email or hosting), under confidentiality obligations;
With a booking platform if you chose to book through it;
Where required by law, or to protect our rights, guests or property.

5. How long we keep it

We keep booking and contact records only as long as needed for the purpose collected and for reasonable business and legal record-keeping, then we securely delete or anonymize them.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses minimal storage and no advertising trackers. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.

7. Marketing and anti-spam (CASL)

We follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We will only send you commercial electronic messages if you gave us clear, opt-in consent (the marketing checkbox is off by default). Every message includes an easy way to unsubscribe, and we honour requests promptly. You can also email valemountbookings@gmail.com at any time to opt out.

8. How we protect your information

We use reasonable physical, organizational and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and limit access to those who need it.

9. Your rights

Subject to law, you may:

Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
Ask us to correct inaccurate information;
Withdraw consent (this may affect our ability to serve you);
Make a complaint to us, and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

10. International visitors (EU/UK)

If you contact us from the EU or UK: we process your data to respond to your request and with your consent. Your information is stored and processed in Canada, which the European Commission recognizes as providing an adequate level of protection. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

11. Children

This website is intended for adults. Bookings require a guest who is at least 19 years old (the age of majority in BC). We do not knowingly collect information from children.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date.
